There are three simple building blocks to Access Control:

SECURITY POINTS

A point of protection may be a door, elevator cab, parking garage door or window. Activity, condition and control of individual security points can be identified

ZONES

A zone is a group of security points, i.e. A group of offices, computer room, a building floor or elevator

SYSTEM AREA

A group of security points or one or more zones configured into a larger autonomous computer controlled system. Access usually gained by presentation of an encrypted card to an access control card reader. Activity and challenges to system are computer logged and audit trails established
